Application Process

Four Steps from Inquiry to Enrollment

USAIM's application process is designed to be transparent, supportive and rigorous. Most applicants receive a decision within four weeks of submission.

Step 1

Submit Your Application

Complete the online application at usaim.edu/apply. The application includes biographical information, academic history, two recommendation letters and a personal statement.

  • Application fee: USD 75 (waived for applicants from low-income countries)
  • Personal statement: 600 words
  • Two letters of recommendation
Step 2

Document Review

Our admissions committee reviews each completed application — academic transcripts, recommendations, statement and supporting documents — within 10–14 business days.

  • Academic, personal & experiential factors
  • Conditional offers possible for incomplete files
Step 3

Virtual MMI Interview

Shortlisted candidates are invited to a virtual Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) with USAIM faculty — a series of 6–8 short structured conversations.

  • 60–75 minutes total
  • Communication, ethics, motivation
  • Conducted in English over Zoom
Step 4

Offer & Enrollment

Successful candidates receive an offer letter within two weeks of interview. Accept your offer, complete enrollment requirements, and prepare for your journey to Mahé.

  • Enrollment deposit: USD 2,000
  • Visa & arrival support from International Office
Eligibility

Who Can Apply

USAIM welcomes applicants from any country. Our eligibility requirements vary by program — but our review process is always holistic.

MD / MBBS

High-school diploma or equivalent (e.g., A-Levels, IB, Bachpalor's degree, etc.) with strong performance in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. SAT, ACT or MCAT scores recommended but not required.

Bachelor of Pharmacy

High-school diploma with science prerequisites (Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics). Demonstrated interest in pharmaceutical sciences via essay or experience.

Master of Public Health

Bachelor's degree (preferably in a health, science or social-science field) with strong academic record. Two letters of recommendation. Statement of purpose.

Pre-Medical Foundation

High-school diploma. Open to applicants who need additional science preparation before entering the MD pathway.

English Proficiency

For non-native English speakers: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 80, or Duolingo English Test 110. Waivers possible for English-medium prior schooling.

Visa & Documentation

International applicants will need a passport valid 12+ months past intended graduation, plus a Seychelles student visa — for which USAIM provides a sponsorship letter.

USAIM publishes tuition transparently. Our published rates are typically 30–40% lower than comparable Caribbean and US-curriculum medical schools.

Up to 30% tuition support for citizens of African Union member states demonstrating financial need.

Women in Medicine Scholarship

Endowed scholarship supporting women applicants entering the MD program; covers up to 25% tuition.

Indian Ocean Heritage Award

Tuition support for applicants from Seychelles, Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar and Réunion.

Government Sponsorship

USAIM accepts government and ministry-of-health sponsorships. Direct billing arrangements available.

Tuition Payment Plans

Per-semester and per-quarter payment plans available. Limited interest-free emergency loans for enrolled students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. USAIM students sit USMLE Step 1 after the second year and Step 2 CK during clinical training. Our curriculum is mapped to USMLE content blueprints, and our students have a Step 1 first-attempt pass rate of approximately 92% over the past five years. USAIM is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), and graduates are eligible for ECFMG certification.

Yes. Through our affiliated US teaching hospitals — including Henry Ford Health, Houston Methodist Affiliate Network and Atlanta Medical Affiliates — eligible MD students complete core and elective clinical rotations across more than ten US cities.

Every applicant is automatically considered for the USAIM Merit Scholarship, the African Union Scholars Award, the Women in Medicine Scholarship and the Indian Ocean Heritage Award — no separate application required. Awards are communicated together with admission decisions.

The MCAT and BMAT are not required for admission to USAIM. SAT, ACT or MCAT scores are welcomed and considered, but not mandatory. Our admissions committee evaluates applicants holistically.

Yes. USAIM accepts limited transfer applications from students currently enrolled at other accredited medical schools. Transfer applicants undergo curriculum mapping; most transfer at the end of the first or second academic year.

The MD application fee is USD 75 (USD 50 for B.Pharm and MPH). Fee waivers are available for applicants from low-income countries and applicants with demonstrated financial need.

USAIM admits twice annually. The Fall (September) cohort begins in early September; the Spring (January) cohort begins in mid-January. Orientation runs the week before classes begin.
